It is good to know that pruning is an important care of the rosebushes, so that we enjoy rich and long-lasting flowering.
The rose needs pruning every year, in order to be renewed and give us new, vigorous vegetation, with many flowers and increased resistance to diseases. The basic steps for proper pruning of a rose are common to all roses, whether in the garden or in a pot.
Of course, depending on the type of rose, there are some specialized manipulations. Suitable time for winter pruning of roses is from the middle of winter when the plants are still dormant, and before the development of the new vegetation.
The pruning of the roses in the area of Attica takes place from January to February.
For pruning a rose we need a pruner, gloves, copper preparation and wound protection paste, so that we prune our roses easier and more efficiently.
- We choose a pruner suitable for roses, for cuts in shoots up to 2 cm in diameter.
- We use gloves that are impervious to thorns, ensuring comfortable movement of the hands.
- For protection against diseases, we supply a special biological preparation of copper, with which we will spray the plants after pruning as well as pruning paste to smear the large pruning incisions.
The pruning of the rose aims at the good ventilation of the plants, the exposure to the sun and, of course, at the development of new vigourous and healthy vegetation.
